Fond Farewell

June marked Violist Cian Ó Dúill final concerts as a member of Irish Chamber Orchestra as he embarks on a career in education at MTU Cork School of Music. Cian has been with us for many years and leaves a lasting legacy of dedication, professionalism and good humour. His many talents will be greatly missed by us all here and we wish him well for the future. We are currently advertising for Cian's replacement on Musical Chairs - full details below.

Kilkenny Arts Festival

On Thursday 15 August we return to St. Canice’s Cathedral with an eclectic programme, mixing old with new, including Vaughan Williams’ gorgeous, ethereal Fantasia
and Mozart’s heartbreaking Symphony No. 40.  Enjoy an Irish premiere of Wallen’s imaginative Dances for Orchestra, full of colourful foot-tapping rhythms – a real treat!

Mozart Homage

On 12 and 13 September, a Mozart Homage directed by Katherine Hunka will delight audiences in Limerick and Waterford. A light and airy Divertimento demonstrates Mozart’s youthful brilliance. Enjoy Schnittke’s kaleidoscopic tribute Moz-Art à la Haydn, fun and full of flair. Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings will seduce and set hearts racing.

Schumann the Romantic

Feel the love and celebration in Schumann’s Overture, Scherzo, and Finale inspired by his marriage. Jörg Widmann’s evocative Chorale Quartet is stark yet beautiful. Delight in the joy and exhilaration of Schumann’s infectious Spring Symphony performed with verve by Widmann and ICO on Saturday 5 October in Limerick.

Mozart Requiem

We join forces with Chamber Choir Ireland conducted by Thomas Zehetmair for Mozart’s epic. Featuring Ailish Tynan, Soprano Carolyn Holt, Mezzo Soprano Robin Tritschler, Tenor Padraic Rowan Bass, Mozart grapples with the mystery of death, willing his final creation into life with his last breaths – experience the heartache and the genius in Dublin on 17 November.

Education & Community

ICO YOUTH on the move!

As part of our Community work, an ICO Quartet performed a lunchtime concert at the Hunt Museum to a capacity house last month. ICO Youth delighted its audience at Cultúrlann Sweeney, Kilkee enjoying pizzas and afterwards, a trip to the beach. On 1 July, eighteen of its musicians went to Dundalk
for a 4-day musical residency Corda Connections. A collaboration with Music Generation Louth and Kerry, the week culminated in a group performance of forty young musicians. Selected ICO Youth members and tutors will attend SEYO 2024 in Pesaro and Urbino, Italy from 12 July. This weeklong summer camp, for European Youth Orchestras features workshops, master classes and performances and is a fantastic opportunity for our students.
