Our Vision and Mission

Who We Are

As Ireland’s national chamber orchestra, we pride ourselves on the excellence and emotional depth of our performances. But we’re so much more than that. We’re also a registered charity, harnessing the power of classical music to change lives and transform communities.

To be one of the world’s most inspiring and innovative chamber orchestras, performing to the highest artistic standards for the widest possible audience.

To enrich the lives of everyone we engage with through world class performances, collaborations and music education and engagement programmes.

Our work is underpinned by our core values of excellence, inclusivity, engagement, collaboration and innovation.

  • Excellence: We strive for excellence in all that we do, from artistic, concert-giving, education and community outreach programmes, to our management and governance.
  • Inclusivity: We promote inclusivity, equality and diversity across our organisation building inclusive practice into the design, development and delivery of our performances and programmes, and the way we work.
  • Engagement: We are committed to engaging with musicians and artists across the creative disciplines, audiences of all ages, promoters and the broader music community nationally and internationally
  • Collaboration: We value collaboration, collaborating with partners and key local, national and international stakeholders in a spirit of symbiosis, openness and respect.
  • Innovation: We initiate cutting-edge programmes and projects and commission new works from Irish and international composers, that inspire and engage and are relevant to audiences of today

The Irish Chamber Orchestra started in 1970. And while a lot has changed since then, some things have not changed at all.

We continue to pride ourselves on our reputation as a leading chamber orchestra and as fearless innovators. We continue to play for audiences at home and abroad, and to work with the most talented artists of our times. But we have also made strides in other areas of work – proudly pioneering music education and community programmes designed to deliver real, measurable change.
