Night at the Opera

December 2018

Irish Chamber Orchestra
Jean-Christophe Spinosi Conductor
Filippo Mineccia Counter Tenor

Sharon Carty Mezzo Soprano has withdrawn, from her scheduled NIGHT AT THE OPERA concerts with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, due to illness. We are delighted to have secured internationally renowned Italian counter-tenor Filippo Mineccia who performs with the ICO for the first time under the baton of Jean-Christophe Spinosi.  Mineccia’s singing is compelling and his performances are not to be missed!   He sings popular arias from Handel operas, Xerxes and Rinaldo and from Orlando Furioso and Giustino (Anastasio) by Vivaldi.

The ICO performs Barber’s much-loved Adagio alongside Biber’s remarkable Battalia. In Mozart’s brilliant Serenata notturna, the ICO retraces Mozart’s progress from a rebellious prodigy to a self-proclaimed king of the Viennese classic.

Handel Overture from Xerxes HWV 40
Handel Frondi tenere… Ombra mai fu from Xerxes HWV 40
Vivaldi Sol da te from Orlando Furioso RV 728
Mozart Serenata notturna – Serenade No. 6 in D Major KV 239
Handel Cara sposa from Rinaldo HWV7
Biber Battalia C 61
Handel Venti Turbini Prestate from Rinaldo HWV7
Barber Adagio for Strings
Vivaldi Vedro Con Mio Diletto from Giustino (Anastasio) RV 717
Vivaldi Nel profondo from Orlando Furioso RV 728

““Filippo Mineccia is a visceral performer for whom dramatic characterisation seems to be paramount, while the range of musical moods provides some scope for versatile and astute musicianship.”
