Widmann introduces a jovial taster with the Marriage of Figaro Overture. Carolin Widmann performs the last of Mendelssohn’s major works, his lyrical Violin Concerto Op. 64, celebrated from the outset as a masterpiece.   Beethoven’s 7th Symphony is unstoppable: the steady build-up of intensity captures the listener in its headlong energy – one of the all-time greats!

Mendelssohn’s Concert Piece No. 1 is a charming and fun-filled showpiece, a lyrical duet between Jörg Widmann and Katherine Spencer with the clarinet weaving a fun-filled melody over a basset horn accompaniment. Carolin Widmann performs Jörg Widmann’s reworking of Mendelssohn’s magical Wedding March, Paraphrase, bringing it in to the 21st century! Paraphrase was a special commission by renowned architect Daniel Liebeskind for his daughter’s wedding, and was performed by Carolin Widmann on the day. Schubert’s Great C major Symphony was premiered by Mendelssohn and was the first of the big Romantic symphonies with its intensely lyrical melodies and its monumental scale – an epic work!
