Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud turns the spotlight on some of his homeland’s finest composers for violin and traverses the centuries in his ICO debut. ICO features Home a world premiere of a new commission by Irish composer Siobhan Lamb. Kraggerud performs a stunning arrangement of La Mélancolie Melody, known as I Ensomme Stunde or In Lonely Moments. Svendsen wrote with panache and his Romanze is one of his most popular works. Traverse the fjords with Grieg’s Holberg Suite, a fabulous collection of delightful dances that demonstrate Grieg’s great skill with simple harmonies that are bright but powerfully moving. Sinding’s Suite in A minor, Op. 10, was showcased by the great violinists of the time and we hear the second, unutterably beautiful slow movement, a real show-stopper. To the 21st century, Kraggerud features four extracts from his ingenious masterpiece, his Suite from Equinox for Violin and Chamber Orchestra where 24 time zones are moulded into four six-movement concertos Afternoon, Evening, Night and Morning. Finally, savour a delicious folk song Chant de Veslemøy, with a heart-warming tune, from Halvorsen’s Suite Mosaique.
