MOSTLY MENDELSSOHN

Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture is a startling work of tremendous originality. The 17 year old composer created a new musical genre (the concert overture), and used musical language and expression unlike any that had come before.

The Best of Christmas

Sibelius originally scored his Andante festivo for string quartet in 1922, re-scoring it for string orchestra in 1938. Full of empassioned string-writing he combines lusciousness with poignancy to great effect.
