Irish Chamber Orchestra

The music is in a spare, focused, linear style that, in this performance fired up moments of fierce trumpet-topped intensity…..The ICO played it as if their very lives depended on it. Michael Dervan, Irish Times

“Edge of the seat excitement was the atmosphere that conductor, Gáor Tákacs-Nagy and the ICO created in the orchestra’s first concert of 2012”…….He drew such a brilliantly differentiated palette of colours and dynamics from the players that the excitement never let up”.  Declan Townsend, The Examiner

October 2011 – US Tour – Chicago Tribune

Irish Chamber Orchestra, Gérard Korsten Conductor, Leon Fleisher Piano, Pádraic Keane Uilleann Pipes

“Speediness and volatility vie for supremacy in the playing of the Irish Chamber Orchestra. How much of that propensity for driving energy and explosive power is built into the ensemble’s musical DNA, and how much comes from the dynamic direction of Gerard Korsten, the South African-born conductor who is leading the group’s eight-city U.S. tour, cannot be determined on a single hearing.”

September 2011- Classical Ceol – Irish Times

Irish Chamber Orchestra, Katherine Hunka Leader, Martin Hayes Fiddle, Dennis Cahill Guitar

“The orchestra, directed from the violin by leader Katherine Hunka dispatched the Grieg with tuneful aplomb and were in fine form for the extreme demands of Ginestera’s Concerto for Strings….which has changes that give even the best of players a thorough workout.  The ICO gave it a performance of typically energetic chutzpah”.

“The Irish Chamber Orchestra under David Brophy played with terrific verve and élan in support of the seven strong cast all who seem very comfortable in their roles”.

“This collaboration with the renowned Irish Chamber Orchestra was received with great enthusiasm in Limerick…”

“Brophy and the ICO were crisp and double-dotted from the start, not as frantic as is the current Brito-Hibernian fashion, but fully in tune with the pathos and particular colouring of this piece; I’d not heard Brophy conduct Handel before but this was gorgeously and sensitively phrased, sparkling and fiery where required (and with some excellently jagged lightning-bolts and fireworks in the cascading da capos) but giving and tender at those places where Handel holds out a comforting hand to his suffering characters in the form of a cello or oboe to guide them through their grieving”.
