Express Yourself

The Irish Chamber Orchestra’s community initiative Sing Out with Strings celebrates its 5th birthday this year, in true party style at University Concert Hall, Limerick on 21 June @ 1pm.

Over 300 children aged 4 – 14 years take to the stage at University Concert Hall with members of the Irish Chamber Orchestra and special guest artists including renowned percussionist Noel Eccles, rock guitarist Jimmy Smith, jazz pianist Boris Hunka and celebrated saxophonist, Ken Edge.

Express Yourself is the theme for this year’s concert, which the children demonstrate in their performance of orchestral works and original songs, while exploring how music impacts on feelings, thinking and creativity!

Since its inception, Sing Out with Strings has gained a reputation for its joyous, uplifting and inspiring performances. Don’t miss this exciting landmark event.  Tickets are free, but pre-booking is necessary.  This event is particularly suitable to school group bookings.

Sing Out With Strings began back in 2008 as an ICO community engagement programme that has since gained a significant position within the musical fabric of primary music provision in Limerick’s regeneration process.   This expanding project now works with over 300 children across Limerick City, featuring pupils and staff from Galvone National School, Southill Junior School, St Mary’s National School and St Enda’s Community School. It addresses inclusion, equality of access and highlights the numerous benefits that a long-term project of this nature has on children, staff parents and the wider community.

Sing Out with Strings was initiated through seed funding from the University of Limerick’s Department of Lifelong Learning / Strategic Innovation in Education Fund. The project continues with invaluable support of Limerick Regeneration.   Sing Out Patrons include the JP McManus Foundation, Leslie Buckley, the Iris O’Brien Foundation, the Sisters of Bon Secours Ireland, Jim Barry, Maurice Healy, Michael Buckley, Maurice Foley, Analog Devices, Atlantic Philanthropies, and Limerick Enterprise Development Partnership.

Sing Out with Strings CLUID Cello Line is generously supported by CLUID Housing Association and Music Network, through its Music Capital Scheme.   This scheme is kindly supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, Music Network and the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht.
