The ICO Chorus was founded in October 2008 by the Irish Chamber Orchestra.
Its aim was to establish an energetic and progressive ensemble and at the same time offer a core group of singers the opportunity to learn, develop and perform with world-class musicians.
For the past three years, the ICO Chorus has worked from the ICO Studio, at UL. The chorus prides itself on the variety of its repertoire. They have performed works by Morten Lauridsen including Magnum Mysterium and Lux Aeterna alongside Joseph Jongen’s Sonata Eroica. They also performed Beatus Vir by Monteverdi at the Hunt Museum last December and works by South America’s Juan de Araujo and Eric Whitacre’s When David heard at the MBNA Limerick International Music Festival. Most recently they performed the Irish premiere of Karl Jenkins Stella Natalis, sharing the concert platform for the first time with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the National Chamber Choir and the County Limerick Youth Choir.
Choral Director Máire Keary Scanlon has been very involved for many years with local choirs. A founding member of Binneas Chamber Choir, she directs the successful children’s choir, Cantette. She is also a founder and director of the multi-award winning women’s choir Seoda and directs the County Limerick Youth Choir who won the sacred music section of the Cork International Choral Festival.
