Katherine Hunka

London born violinist Katherine Hunka is leader of the Irish Chamber Orchestra and regularly directs from the leader’s chair. As director with the ICO she has touredIreland and China and performed in Berlin. This summer she will direct the ICO at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival.  She is a regular chamber musician and soloist in Ireland and  has given premiere performances with a number of Irish and British orchestras, including Benjamin Britten’s rediscovered Double Concerto. As a soloist she has performed in the Wigmore Hall, The Royal Albert Hall and The South Bank Centre inLondon. In 2009 Katherine  formed a duo with accordionist Dermot Dunne, with whom she has recently launched a CD. As well as touring China with the ICO last year the pair perform regularly throughoutIreland and will be making their London debut later this year.

Katherine had the good fortune to be teaching assistant to her professor Mauricio Fuks whilst studying  at Indiana Universityin the USA. This instilled in her a great love of teaching.
